Daniel C Petersen Bio
Daniel was born January 15, 1953 in southern California. He received his bachelor’s degree in Greek and philosophy from BYU. Later after years of study in Jerusalem and Cairo he earned a Ph.D in Near Eastern Languages and Cultures from UCLA.
He is a professor of Islamic Studies and Arabic at BYU. He has authored several books and numerous articles on Islamic and Latter-day Saint topics. He also founded and served as director of BYU’s Middle Eastern Texts Initiative from 1992-2010. He is a former board member of the Neal A. Maxwell Institute for Religion Scholarship at BYU. He is also the current editor of Interpreter: A Journal of Mormon Scripture.
Daniel served his mission in Switzerland Zurich.
He is married to Deborah Stephens and has three sons.
