When Garth LaMar Allred was born on 25 January 1939, in Cardston County, Alberta, Canada, his father, Golden Allred, was 38 and his mother, Josephine Leavitt, was 39. He married Mary Luell Best on 1 February 1963, in Manti, Sanpete, Utah,
Garth served a mission in the Eastern United States and earned a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree at Brigham Young University. He moved to Florida in 1971 and obtained a doctorate degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Florida State University.
Garth was employed most of his career as a religious educator. He was a seminary teacher and an institute teacher. He taught at Florida State University, Dixie College, and BYU-Hawaii. He taught at the BYU Jerusalem Center in 1992.
Garth Authored two books: The Eternal Plan of Happiness and Unlocking the Powers of Faith.
He and his wife raised eight children together. Garth passed away in Provo on June 9, 2011.
