Kaye Hanson

1994-1996

Kaye Terry Hanson served in a number of positions at BYU, including as a faculty member in the Marriott School of Management, where she taught communication to graduate stu­dents and religion and business together in the undergraduate core. She served nearly three years as the associate director of BYU’s Jerusalem Center in Jerusalem, Israel, and also served as cochair of the Faculty Advisory Council on campus.

Professor Hanson graduated from BYU with a BA in English, an MA in theater and German, and a PhD in theater history and German. She completed a mission to Germany and has served as gospel doctrine teacher, Young Women president, Primary president, and Relief Society counselor. She also served on the Young Women General Board.

Professor Hanson coedited Finding God at BYU, a book about remarkable stories of emerging faith in faculty and students. She has also written a communication book called Say It Right. Her favorite pas­time is writing and binding books for her grandchildren.

Kaye Terry Hanson passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, September 25, 2016. Kaye was born in Beaver, Utah on June 11, 1942 to Andrew Jensen and Lyla Wixom Terry.
She is survived by her son Rolf Hanson (Sally), daughter Gretchen Knell (Abraham), and grandchildren Olle, Leif, Finn (Deceased), Elsa, and Liesel Hanson and Zachary, Sadie, McKay, and Lucy Knell.
Kaye was a loving and devoted “Bamma” to her 9 grandchildren. She spent countless hours with each child at the theater, reading and creating books, and instilling in them a love of the arts, education and the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Kaye graduated from Brigham Young University with a BA in English, an MA in Theater and German, and a PhD in Theater History and German. She retired in 2008 from the faculty of the BYU Marriott School of Management, where she taught communications, business, and religion to graduate and undergraduate students. Kaye served in multiple positions in the Marriott School, including director of public relations and associate director of the MBA program. She taught at BYU for twenty-seven years in a variety of departments, teaching New Testament, Book of Mormon, and theater history. Kaye served for nearly three years as the Associate Director of BYU’s Jerusalem Center in Israel.
She served a full-time mission to Germany for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a young woman, and later completed another mission to Europe, where she trained local leaders and young people in 32 countries on opening Centers for Young Adults for the Church. She previously served on the Young Women General Board.
