Doug and Carol Ladle on Sinai

Doug was born in Rexburg and enjoys living in his ancestral homeland.  Carol is a convert who joined the Church in Bakersfield, CA, during her sophomore year in college.  She had lived in several western states before moving to BYU to finish her bachelor’s degree where Doug could find her.

Doug’s thirty-seven year career in CES included teaching seminary in Bountiful and Rexburg, developing curriculum materials for BYU Independent Study, and teaching religion at Ricks College and BYU-Idaho.  He also taught at the BYU-Jerusalem Center in 1993 and 1996.

Before marrying Doug, Carol taught elementary school.  After marriage, Carol raised their family in the home but also continued her schooling where she completed a second bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in Nursing Education.  She taught nursing at Ricks College and one of her assignments at that time was to supervise nursing students in Jerusalem hospitals who were completing their clinical semester while participating in the BYU-Jerusalem program.  After a seven-year career at Ricks College she completed a second master’s degree as a Nurse Practitioner and worked at the Madison Women’s Clinic where she had her own patients.

Doug has served as a Bishop, Stake President, Mission President’s Counselor, and is currently a sealer in the Rexburg Idaho Temple.  Carol has served as a Relief Society President, a counselor in a Stake Relief Society, a choir director, a temple ordinance worker, and in many other ward callings.  Since their retirement, they have fulfilled missions in South Africa and Scotland, served as joint directors of the Rexburg Family History Center, coordinated Church History activities for 31 stakes in the Upper Snake River Valley, and currently serve as the JustServe Specialists for the Rexburg Idaho Coordinating Council.

They have six married children spread across America and thirty-two grandchildren.  Their older grandchildren are now starting to attend BYU and BYU-Idaho—the lucky ones who come to BYU-Idaho get to come for Sunday dinners.
