Terry Ball -- Religious Education, Former Dean

Dr. Terry B. Ball is an Emeritus Professor of Ancient Scripture. He taught and researched at Brigham Young University from 1989 through 2020.  Over the course of his career he taught hundreds of classes and thousands of students. He contributed over 120 publications in both religious and scientific venues, including journal articles, chapters in books, encyclopedia entries, edited books, and authored books. During his tenure at BYU he also served in many administrative capacities including Religious Education Graduate Coordinator, Chair of the Department of Ancient Scripture,  and Dean of Religious Education. He has taught and traveled extensively in the Holy Land, including teaching at the BYU Jerusalem Center for Near Eastern Studies. For several years he led annual pre-service training tours for faculty preparing to teach at the Jerusalem Center. He describes teaching at the Jerusalem Center as the “premier teaching experience” in the Church Education system.  Dr. Ball’s primary ancient scripture research focused on the prophet Isaiah, Old Testament Studies, New Testament Studies, and the Book of Mormon.  In addition to teaching and researching in ancient scripture, Dr. Ball was an active researcher in the field of archaeobotany.  He and his wife, DeAnna, are the parents of 6 children and 14 grandchildren.
