Wilson Andersen and his wife, Margaret, had five children. Four of them came to Jerusalem with them in 1974: Maren, Aleta, Orrin and Moroni. By then, he had been with the Church Department of Education for 28 years. He had taught in the Department of Ancient Scripture for 10. For seven years, he was the Chairman of Theology in the College of Religious Instruction. He was an avid photographer, motorcyclist, mountain climber and an amateur (and sometimes professional) prestidigitator.

Brother Andersen wrote that he hoped “to make this one of the grandest experiences in the lives of each of us involved.”
