Personally I was scheduled to attend the Winter 1991 semester. On January 15th 1991, the day we were scheduled to arrive in Tel Aviv, the United States started to drop bombs on Iraq starting Operation Desert Storm. The semester abroad was canceled just before Christmas break in 1990. All who were planning to go in January had to scramble for classes and housing for winter semester. We were given the first priority to reschedule, starting in the Summer 1991 semester. I opted for the Fall of 1991. We had a fantastic group of about 160 students from BYU, U of U, Ricks and other institutions. The lion share of students came from BYU. I am not sure if the Summer semester 1991 happend or if the Fall 1991 semester was the first one back after the war.
The experience I had at the Jerusalem Center remains one of the most pivotal experiences I have had in my life. It was amazing– one of the mottos of our program was simply “Remember.”
