Ein Gedi is located near the shores of the Dead Sea between Wadi David (north) and Wadi Arugot (south) about 20 miles south of Qumran. En Gedi means “spring of the wild goat” in Hebrew. Within the site are hiking trails and waterfalls fed by springs.
When David fled from King Saul, he sought refuge in the caves at En Gedi. When Saul heard David had fled to this place, he brought his army to Ein Gedi “upon the rocks of the wild goats” (1 Sam 24:2).
Here, David had the opportunity to kill Saul but refused to kill the king. (1 Sam 24:3-6)
