With Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait, which eventually set off the First Gulf War, the Summer term and Fall Semester programs instituted extra security precautions for students in Jerusalem.

Fall semester started in Athens rather then flying to Jerusalem to begin a program while they waited to see if it would be safe to eventually go to Jerusalem. Once it was evident that a war wasn’t going to get in the way, the students finally continued their program in Jerusalem with a trip to Egypt at the end. Following that semester, the program was suspended.
