President Harold B. Lee visit to Holy Land
1972 September - President Harold B. Lee visit to Holy Land
President Harold B. Lee visits Jerusalem along with Elder Gordon B. Hinckley, during which they established the Jerusalem Branch of the Church with David Galbraith (resident director of Jerusalem Study Abroad program) as Branch President. In a visit with the Chief Rabbi, they are asked whether the Church intends to proselytize in the Holy Land. President Lee responds that the Church does not come through the back door, but only when invited through the front door. David Galbraith proposes the creation of a memorial to Orson Hyde in Jerusalem. President Lee authorizes Galbraith to look for land for that purpose.
