Capernum was a town on the northern shore of the Sea of Galilee where Jesus lived during much of His ministry. He taught and performed more recorded miracles in and around Capernaum than in any other New Testament place. Near Capernaum, Christ commissioned His 12 apostles ( Matt 10:1-42) and appeared as the resurrected Lord after His crucifixion (John 21:2). One can visit the traditional site of the house of Peter (Matt 8:14-15) as well as the ancient synagogue. The Black basalt foundation from the 1st-century synagogue is the place where Christ taught.
The ruins of Caperaum are now divided between the Greek Orthodox Church and Catholic Church. Both with beautiful grounds and churches that provide peaceful settings to reflect on the Savior’s ministry.
