On the Northwest side of the Sea of Galilee sits the traditional site of the Mount of Beatitudes. Where Jesus delivered what is thought to be the greatest sermon ever given, the Sermon on the Mount (Matt 5-7) and possibly sought privacy for prayer (Mark 1:35). Several versions of this sermon were given by Jesus (Luke 6:12-59; 3 Nephi 12-14).
The Church of the Beatitudes was built on the hill in 1938 and continues to invite pilgrims from around the world to walk this hallowed, beautiful and peaceful site. The word “beatitude” comes from the Latin, beatus, meaning “blessed or happy.” Sitting on the beautiful grounds and finding a quiet corner. Provides the perfect setting to read this sacred sermon and ponder how we too can come closer to Christ and find a more “blessed” and “holy” life.
