How the Jerusalem Center Alumni Came About

In 2019, after having visited the Jerusalem Center two years in a row and having participated in the Jerusalem Center 30 Year Anniversary Event at Brigham Young University, April Giddings Cobb presented the idea of creating an organization to unite Alumni with a cause. She had been considering the importance of reminding fellow alumni of the significance of the Jerusalem study abroad experience and the impact it has had on so many lives. Remembering the people as well as the lessons learned and the testimonies built is key to this organization. We must remember the past to improve the future. As we bring to mind the gospel of Jesus Christ and the reality of his teachings, we will be anchored as life gets complicated and as trials come upon us. So many of us yearn for a stronger connection to one another and to the gospel. We felt that strength in Jerusalem, and we can feel that connection again as we serve and share together. Friendships will be built, connections will be made, and testimonies will be reborn.
With the support and involvement of the Jerusalem Center office, we began. We established our board in 2020 and began bringing on volunteers to run every aspect of the organization. Alumni from all decades of the Jerusalem program have enthusiastically given their time to build something far-reaching and impactful. Starting with a website and the collection of stories, we began. Our goals are to remind one another of our experiences, Collect alumni along with their stories of their time in the Holy Land, teach one another the gospel and things related to the Middle East, and finally to give back in every way possible so that others will be able to enjoy the experience we were so privileged to enjoy ourselves.
